How these minotaur names are built

The labyrinth register is the sound the myth trained everyone to expect: open syllables, th, kh and ph, and three syllables ending in -os, -on or -es. It is deliberately close to the Greek shape without borrowing a real name, so Khalastos and Theramon land as minotaur to any player who has met one in a story, and the maze does half the work for you.

That register carries the gender axis. Masculine endings are -os (of the labyrinth), -on (horned), -es (bull-born), -ios (of the island) and -tos (sworn); feminine endings are -a (moon-horn), -ia (of the temple), -ene (thread-holder) and -eia (of the maze). The neutral -ys glosses as double axe, for the labrys that the maze-builders left carved on everything they owned.

The horn-clan register is for playable minotaurs, who need a name that sounds like a person rather than a monster in a riddle. It compounds two heavy roots with glosses you can read straight off: kor (horn), dur (hoof), gath (bull), brak (breaker), gron (thunder), skel (bone). Kordur and Gathbrak are built the way a working language builds names, out of parts that mean something.

A clan name follows, and its gloss is the deed the clan is remembered for rather than a place: Gatebreaker, Threadcutter, Yokebreaker, Bridgehold. Minotaur clans in modern settings keep their history in that one word, so the second half of the name is a claim about ancestors, and a hook for a DM to test. Two minotaurs of the same clan share the deed and nothing else, which is a useful thing to argue about.
