How these gang names are built

Historical street gangs named themselves three ways: for a weapon or animal with an insulting adjective (the Dead Rabbits, the Forty Thieves), for their street or district, or for their leader. This generator uses all three patterns with original word lists, each part glossed so The Sixpenny Eels (cheap and dangerous, slippery) tells you how they fight.

Boss-named crews (Mother Gale’s Dogs, Half-Jack’s Crew, the Deacon’s Lot) are the commonest real pattern and the rarest in generators; here they get their own style, and the boss names come with a hint about who the boss is.

Modern gangs use a shorter, harder vocabulary (Neon Saints, Concrete Kings, 13th Street Ghosts) for cyberpunk and urban settings. Real gang names, historical and current, are blocked.
