How these fairy & fae names are built

Fairy names in English folklore and its fiction are diminutive and bright: thin vowels (i, e), light onsets (l, f, w, th, p), open syllables and playful endings. This generator builds two syllables from that inventory with glossed endings: -ette (small and quick), -illa (flower-born), -wen (moon-white), -ick (trickster), -wisp (a light in the marsh), -wing (quick-winged).

Court names are the compounds the fae use among themselves, plant or weather plus a part or gesture: Thistledown, Cobwebveil, Hawthornsting, Glimmerdance. Every part is glossed. The same compounds turn sinister with the right first half (Shadowwhisper, Nettlesting), which is how the unseelie reveal themselves.

Titles place a fae in a court or at a landmark: of the Summer Court, of the Hollow Hill, Taker of Names, Prince of Puddles. The hint tells you what the title implies for a bargain.

Can I get dark fae or unseelie names?

Yes. Court names with Shadow, Nettle, Cobweb or Frost read unseelie, as do titles of the Winter and Dusk Courts and Taker of Names. Lock the ones you like and re-roll the rest.

Are these pixie or sprite names?

They work for pixies, sprites, brownies and any small folk. For elves, which are a different tradition, use the Elf generator.

Are any of these from Shakespeare or Disney?

No. The famous ones (Titania, Oberon, Puck, Tinker Bell and others) are blocked, and the rest is generated from original data.
