How these dragonborn names are built

Draconic-flavoured names share a texture across the genre: hard k and r, hissing sh and th, a long a, and endings that crack shut (-ash, -rax, -ith). This generator builds two or three syllables from that inventory, allowing heavier clusters than an elvish grammar would (Kriv, Ghesh) while keeping every seam pronounceable.

Given-name endings carry meaning: -ash (fire), -ar (claw), -rax (jaw) and -kan (wing) read masculine; -a (ember), -ra (flame), -ess (talon) and -ani (sky) read feminine; -ith (scale) and -ix (hatchling) are shared.

Clan names run long on purpose: a two-syllable root plus a formal ending such as -ankalor (of the first brood), -linthiar (of the high ledge) or -ithorran (of the storm peaks). In most settings the clan is spoken first, as the default order here does; switch to Given name, then clan for cultures that reverse it.

Dragonborn also carry childhood nicknames describing a trait (Climber, Earbender). Those are not generated here; give the character one yourself and it will mean more.

Do these names depend on dragon colour?

No. Colour is ancestry, not culture, and dragonborn of every colour share a naming tradition. If you want a hint of it, choose a given name whose gloss fits: fire for red, sky for blue.

Are these from D&D?
