Goblin Name Generator

Goblin names are short, sharp and a little bit funny. Every result gives a spitting given name with a meaning and a nickname the goblin definitely did not choose.

How these goblin names are built

Goblin-speak in the genre is quick and unvoiced: sn, sk and gr onsets, the thin vowel i, and codas that click and spit (-k, -t, -z, -ks, -tch). This generator builds one or two syllables from that inventory, so Snik and Grizzat come out goblin and Grommash does not.

Endings carry meaning: -ik (small and sharp), -zit (spits), -nak (biter), -ek (sneak) and -ag (grabber) read masculine; -a (clever), -ix (quick), -ela (shrieker), -itz (trickster) and -ka (scratcher) read feminine.

Nicknames are given by other goblins and are never flattering: Toothpick, Halfear, Cheesethief, the Lucky. Each carries a hint so the nickname is a character note as much as a name.

For a goblin boss, set Length to Medium or Long and drop the nickname; a boss gets a title instead, and has usually killed whoever remembers the nickname.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to what players and writers ask us most

Do goblins have surnames?

No. They have a given name and whatever the tribe calls them behind their back. Tribe names are separate; use the Clan or Gang generator for those.

Can I get a serious goblin name without the joke nickname?

Yes. Set Name to Name only. The given names on their own are short and sharp rather than comic.

Are these Warhammer or D&D goblins?

The grammar targets the sound both traditions share; nothing is copied from either, and their well-known names are blocked.

Are the names free to use?

Yes, freely.
