Privacy Policy
What we collect, why, and your choices. Written to be readable, not lawyered.
Who we are
NameForge (name-forge.net) publishes free fantasy and RPG name generators and guides. This policy explains how we handle information when you visit.
What stays on your device
- Your shortlist and settings. Starred names, your light/dark choice and similar preferences are stored in your browser's local storage. They are not transmitted to us. Clearing your browser data removes them.
- Generated names. Generation happens in your browser from data embedded in the page. We have no record of which names you generated, copied or saved.
- Shared links. "Copy link to this list" encodes a seed and your settings in the URL. Anyone you send it to can reproduce the list; we do not log it.
What we collect
- Usage data (analytics). We use Google Analytics 4 to see aggregate, non-identifying statistics: pages visited, general location (country or region), device type and how you arrived. IP addresses are not stored by GA4. This tells us which generators are useful and which need work.
- Server logs. Our hosting and content delivery provider (Cloudflare) records standard request logs, including IP address and user agent, for security and reliability. They are retained briefly and not used to identify you.
- Information you send us. If you email us, we receive your address and message and use them only to reply.
Advertising
NameForge is supported by advertising. Advertising partners may use cookies or similar technologies to show ads that are relevant to you and to measure them. Where required, you will be asked for consent before such cookies are set, and you can change your choice at any time from the consent link in the footer. You can also opt out of personalised advertising through aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.eu. Some guides contain affiliate links, described in our advertising disclosure.
Cookies
We set no cookies of our own. Analytics and advertising partners set their own, as described above. Local storage (used for the shortlist) is not a cookie and is never sent with requests.
Children
The site is suitable for general audiences and collects no personal information from anyone, including children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold. Because we hold almost none, the practical answer is usually that there is nothing to delete beyond your own emails. Write to us and we will confirm within 30 days.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the date above is updated and the change is described here.
