NameForge is a set of free fantasy and RPG name generators. Each one builds names from a naming grammar written for that culture or thing (elves, dwarves, taverns, kingdoms) and shows the meaning behind the name. There is no account, no limit and nothing to install.

They are generated, not picked from a list, but they are not random letters. Every generator has weighted rules for which sounds can start, fill and end a syllable, how many syllables a name has, and which glossed endings it can take. That is why elf names come out elvish and dwarf names come out dwarven, and why we can tell you what a name means.

Yes. The output is generated from original data written for this site. We claim no ownership over any name you generate, and we do not copy names from published settings. Where a generator is inspired by a franchise, we say so on the page and block its famous canonical names so they cannot appear by accident.

Press the star next to any name to add it to your shortlist. The shortlist is stored in your browser, so it survives reloads and works across every generator on the site. Copy all, download it as a text file, or clear it from the shortlist panel under the results.

Press Copy link to this list. The link carries a seed plus your settings, so anyone who opens it sees the same names in the same order. Lock names first to make sure they stay when you generate more.

A meaning appears when the name was assembled from parts that carry one: a gendered ending, a family-name root, a tavern-sign word. A name built purely from sound has no assigned meaning, which is also true of many real fantasy names.
