How these knight names are built

Historically a knight was named three ways: by the land they held (of Ashford), by a deed or trait (the Bold), or by the device they bore (of the Silver Lance). This generator offers all three, plus a plain family name for settings where knighthood is a rank rather than a landholding.

Given names use the Heartlands register: two syllables ending in -ric (ruler), -win (friend), -bert (bright), -ward (guardian) for men and -wen (fair), -ith (gift), -lind (gentle), -ise (promise) for women. The honorific follows the gender: Sir or Dame.

Seats compound a descriptor with a landholding word (Coldmoor, Ravenhall, Westermarch), and the hint reads the compound back. Epithets carry a story (the Penitent, the Landless, the Younger). Heraldic titles pair a colour or state with a charge (of the Broken Tower, of the Weeping Rose).

Should I use Sir or Dame for a non-binary knight?

Set Gender to Neutral and the honorific is omitted, leaving the given name and title. Many settings also use Ser as a neutral form; add it yourself if yours does.

Can I get a paladin name here?

Yes. Paladins are knights with a vow; the Epithet style (the Sworn, the Penitent, the Steadfast) and the Heraldic style suit them especially well.

Are the seats real places?
