How these halfling names are built

Halfling names across the genre borrow the sound of rural English nicknames: labial and liquid consonants (b, p, m, l, w), short vowels, and given names that end on an open vowel. This generator keeps to two syllables by default and never lets consonants pile up, so every name reads as friendly rather than heroic.

Given names take an ending with a gloss. Masculine endings are -o (little one), -bo (sturdy), -ric (clever) and -wick (quick); feminine endings are -a (sweet), -ie (dear), -ina (bright), -rose and -belle (fair). The neutral -i (small) and -y (merry) suit any halfling.

Family names are compounds of a homely first element (Bramble, Honey, Puddle, Clover, Under) and a place or object (foot, burrow, hill, kettle, whistle). Bramblefoot, Honeykettle and Underhollow all come from the same forty parts, and the hint under each name spells the compound out.

Length works on the given name only. Short gives one syllable plus ending (Tobo, Mia), long stretches to three, which halflings reserve for formal occasions and family Bibles.

Are these hobbit names?
