How these dragon names are built

Dragon names in the genre are long vowels between hard consonants: v, r, th and k at the front, a big open a in the middle, and endings that snap (-ax, -th, -oth). This generator builds two or three syllables from that inventory, allows heavier clusters than a mortal grammar would, and closes most names on a consonant so they sound final.

Endings carry a gloss from an invented draconic register: -ax (the devourer), -oth (the ancient), -ion (the sky-lord), -gorath (the mountain-breaker) read masculine; -a (the golden), -ith (the wise), -ess (the queen of ash), -aeth (the storm-wing) read feminine; -ix (the wyrmling) and -ur (the old) fit any dragon.

Titles are what the people who live in its shadow call it: Mountain-Shadow, the Ever-Hungry, Burner of Cities, the Whisper in the Peaks. Each carries a hint about the dragon’s habits, so Vorthax the Patient Coil sleeps for centuries and Sarraeth Sky-Scourge takes cattle from the air.

Chromatic and metallic colour is left to you; the glosses give you hints (Bringer of Winter for a white, the Venom-Tongued for a green) without locking a colour to a name.
