How these wizard names are built

Wizard names across the genre lean Latinate and scholarly: soft onsets (m, v, th, l, s), open syllables, and endings borrowed from the classroom rather than the battlefield (-us, -ius, -ia). This generator builds two or three syllables from that inventory and keeps clusters light, so the names read as learned rather than fierce.

Endings carry a gloss from an invented academy register: -us (the learned), -ius (of the order), -ar (star-reader), -oth (of the deep lore) and -ander (wand-bearer) read masculine; -a (the wise), -ia (of the order), -wen (seer), -ith (spell-weaver) and -isse (scribe) read feminine; -el (the quiet) is shared.

Epithets are how the world remembers a wizard: the Grey, the Unseen, of the Nine Keys, the Thrice-Named. Each carries a hint about the character’s speciality or history, so Velmarius the Ink-Fingered arrives as a scholar and Tessaria the Stormcaller as a battle mage.

What makes a name sound like a wizard?

Length, Latin, and restraint. Two or three smooth syllables, an ending that sounds like a title, and no hard clusters. The epithet does the dramatic work; the name stays dignified.

Can I get an apprentice name instead of an archmage?

Set Length to Short and Name to Name only. Two-syllable results such as Corus or Lisia read as students; add the epithet later, once they have earned one.

Are any of these from published settings?

No. The grammar, glosses and epithets are original, and famous wizard names from fiction are blocked so they cannot appear by chance.
