How these angel names are built

Angelic names in the Western tradition end in -el (of God) or -iah, and fiction has kept that music: open syllables, s, r, l and m onsets, a long vowel and a soft close. This generator builds from that inventory with an invented set of glossed endings, so the names sound canonical without being any real angel’s.

Endings carry a gloss: -iel (of the light), -ael (the messenger), -uriel (flame of the light), -iah (the praised), -eth (the keeper) are shared; -ion (the watcher), -os (the steadfast) and -iron (the sword of the light) read masculine; -ith (the singer), -ah (the merciful) and -ara (the dawn) read feminine.
