How these sci-fi character names are built

Names four centuries from now will be recognisable and slightly off, the way names four centuries ago are. This generator builds short given names from an international inventory (k, r, s, t, n, m, j, v) with no fantasy vowels, and adds endings glossed as regional forms: Terran-standard (-an, -a), colony (-os, -is), belt (-ik, -ya), core-world (-ar, -ine), station (-el). The gloss tells you where the character grew up.

Surnames are real-world names from many cultures, plus merged colony families (Reyes-Tan, Nakamura-Cole, Mercer-Oyibo) of the kind that form when settlements are small. Each carries a hint about its origin.

Callsigns and ranks are for military and shipboard settings. A callsign is earned (Static: comms trouble; Halo: a lucky escape), and the name it sits inside is how the character is introduced on a manifest.
